An Ancient Symbol
In Biblical times, the pomegranate was one of the Shiv‘at HaMinim—the Seven Species that highlighted the riches of the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 8:8). Alongside wheat, barley, figs, and olives, this fruit symbolized the abundant blessings awaiting the Children of Israel.
When the Twelve Spies explored the land, they returned with evidence of its bounty, including pomegranates, underscoring the land's potential. These fruits represented not just sustenance but also divine promise and prosperity.
