John the Baptist was an austere man who lived in the desert on wild foods. He preached a relentless message of repentance. When he baptized Jesus, he knew Jesus was the Messiah. The Spirit had given John a confirming sign of the dove; that was fulfilled. So why question if Jesus was the One?
